The New Mexico State Council of the International Reading Association (NMIRA) is a nonprofit organization with a membership of over 400 classroom and pre-service teachers, reading specialists, librarians, administrators and university instructors that support our nine local councils throughout the state actively working to accomplish our mission and goals.

ABOUT NMIRA
NMIRA is the New Mexico State Council of the International Reading Association (IRA). It was first chartered May 18, 1971. NMIRA is a non-profit organization whose primary purposes are to promote effective literacy programs at all levels and to provide its members and the community with resources to increase their awareness of the current issues and practices in the field of reading. There have been as many as eight hundred (800) members in NMIRA. Membership includes teachers, professional specialists, administrators, parents, university professors, university students and others committed to the advocacy of literacy and the life-long love of reading.
MISSION
The New Mexico Council of the International Reading Association is a professional organization that provides information, support and service to all with the development of literacy and the life-long love of reading.
